Simple. Sustainable. Solutions. Your Key to Sustainability

AEI makes decarbonization accessible through applied energy intelligence. We cut the costs and simplify the process of meeting Colorado's Building Performance Standards. Our loyalty is to our clients, the climate and our local small business owners and contractors, not to some faraway group of investors.

Decarbonization, priced for the building owner.

At AEI, we believe in simple, scalable and sustainable solutions. Our team brings deep industry knowledge, regulatory insight and hands-on field experience, and delivers turn-key results you can trust, from the first benchmark to the last rebate check.

We are privately owned and building-centric: our only commitments are to our clients and the climate. Rebate dollars are meant to fund real carbon savings, so we keep our fees inside them and send the rest of the budget to the projects themselves.

Why owners choose AEI

Fees inside the rebate

We never charge more for an audit than the estimated rebate. Incentives meant for carbon savings shouldn't be absorbed by consultant fees.

No strings attached

We're not a general contractor, an ESCO or an equipment seller, so there is no construction commitment. Every recommendation is one we'd make for our own building.

Local partners

When you're ready to build, we connect you with HVAC service companies, MEP design firms and financing partners, favoring locally owned small businesses.

Faster, lower-cost analysis

AI-assisted analysis works through utility bills, interval data and building records in days instead of weeks. You get the same rigor at a lower cost.

Facing a building performance deadline?

Energize Denver: buildings of 25,000 sq ft and up benchmark every year by June 1. Under the rules updated in August 2026, most face an interim energy target in 2028 and a final target in 2032. Buildings of 5,000 to 24,999 sq ft have their own deadlines, starting December 31, 2026 for 20,000 to 24,999 sq ft.

Building Performance Colorado: buildings of 50,000 sq ft and up statewide report by November 1 each year and must meet a 2030 performance target.

Energize Denver audit rebates: get pre-approved by December 15, 2026

Denver pays $5,000 toward an ASHRAE Level 2 audit for buildings of 25,000 to 50,000 sq ft, and $2,500 plus $0.05 per sq ft, up to $30,000, for larger buildings. Audits with a site visit on or after November 17, 2022 can qualify retroactively. Most buildings face their 2028 interim target, so projects need to be finished during 2027 to count for a full year.

Our pledge: we never charge more for your audit than the estimated rebate. We file the rebate application with you, and because we are not a general contractor, there is no construction commitment attached.

172 income-qualified Denver households had heat but no cooling. Now every apartment has a high-efficiency heat pump, and rebates paid 95% of the bill.

The Towers at Speer is a 1982 Denver apartment building that serves lower-income families. Its hot water radiant system could only heat, so residents went without cooling through Denver summers. Miles led the ASHRAE Level 2 audit and engineered a conversion of the building's heating loop to serve 175 new water-source heat pumps, giving every apartment quiet, efficient heating and cooling.

As a Denver Equity Priority Building, the project stacked Denver's C.A.S.R. rebate with Xcel Energy's heat pump discount: $1,435,000 against a $1.51 million cost. That left the owner $78,470, which the estimated Section 179D deduction more than covers. The building then earned an ENERGY STAR score of 95 and already beat its Energize Denver target, six years early.

The building scored 95 out of 100 on ENERGY STAR, and its site energy use of 41.3 kBtu per square foot beats its 2030 target of 44.2, six years early. 172 apartments with cooling for the first time 175 water-source heat pumps on the building's converted heating loop ENERGY STAR 95 top 5% of U.S. multifamily Who paid for the $1.51M project 83%Denver C.A.S.R. rebate 12%Xcel Energy heat pump discount 5%Owner: $78,470, before a ~$132,800 179D deduction Site EUI against its 2030 target 41.3 kBtu/ft² actual · target 44.2 · baseline 63.7

How we work

Compliance is where many clients start, not where we stop. The same method serves three kinds of clients.

  1. AssessData, site visit and analysis
  2. PlanMeasures ranked by cost, carbon and payback
  3. FundRebates, incentives, tax deductions and financing
  4. BuildYour choice of vetted, locally owned partners
  5. VerifyBenchmarking and savings you can see

We are not a general contractor and do not provide stamped MEP design. Staying independent is what lets us recommend only what's right for your building.
